The challenge with the project (and the fun) was doing all we could to balance Flow's established position as a scientific lab with the need to showcase the vibrant, sensory-driven aspects of their products. I really wanted customers to feel like they could smell and taste the products through the screen. But Flow needed to retain a certain degree of solemnity in their branding — these guys are doing real science, not playing games in the business.

The solution was creative direction and gorgeous visuals, while keeping their original branding unchanged. This not only allowed for eye-catching visuals that instantly communicate the massive range of possibilities they offer outside of just cannabis strain terpenes, it also let us do something different from their competitors. While competitors are positioned "product first" by using bubbly graphics and bright packaging, we chose to zag instead of zig - using real images instead of graphical renderings, and limiting the palette to reflect the clean, laboratory environments they're known for.

Good news is? It worked, and the site is proving a highly valuable tool for their ongoing domination of the terpene sector.

Flow Scientific reproduces scents and flavours using natural plant terpenes. They are leading the way as one of Canada's top producers of terpenes for flavours and scents, gaining massive traction with the boom in the cannabis and hemp sector post-legalization. After being acquired in a game-changing buy-out, Flow redirected their sales focus to serve B2B customers. We created a new digital presence for them to support the evolution of their business model, and a creative partner joined me to provide mood-drenched visuals to express Flow's message and tell their story.
