“Death is certain. Life is not”.

Death is one of the few things that we as humans are guaranteed in life, and this is a reality that unites us all. The manner in which one acknowledges this fact is unique to the individual.

In medieval times, the theory and practice of reflecting on the transient nature of earthly life was known as memento mori : a Latin phrase translating to "remember that you must die".

This outlook is remarkably similar to the Japanese concept of mono no aware — the "pathos of things".  It is a melancholy appreciation of the transience of life. A beautiful sort of recognition that borders on a comforting sense of sadness in which we celebrate in the passage of time and drawing down of all things.

The purpose of these concepts is not to create apathy or hopelessness, but the opposite. Memento Mori  is a reminder to live well, and live NOW.

It's a philosophical outlook we embrace at Hyperform. Time is short, and there is much life to be lived before the sand runs through the glass and the final curtain drops.

This artwork project was created by our in-house team as a reminder of times brevity, and for us all to make the most of every moment. Waste not a second on that which can't be changed or is of no value.

Prints we're released in a limited edition and are now sold out.
